Algis Skačkauskas was a Lithuanian painter who was active during the last decade of the Soviet era. Skačkauskas’s work is often classified as Neoexpressionist. He became one of Lithuania’s most prominent artists during the 1980s and 1990s.
After serving in the Soviet Army, Skačkauskas began to study painting at the Lithuanian State Art Institute. After completing his studies he became a teacher at the Vilnius Vienožinskis Art School. Skačkauskas also began exhibiting both in Lithuania and internationally.
Skačkauskas was an active member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union and a group of painters called “24.” His paintings were highly praised and accepted into numerous group shows and museums. Skačkauskas’s paintings are now in the permanent collection of the Lithuanian Art Museum and the Kaunas MK Ciurlionis Art Musuem.
