Jean Baptiste Regnault was an 18th century French painter. Regnault painted in both the academic and Neoclassical style. Regnault won the Prix de Rome in 1776 and studied there alongside Jacques Louis David.
Regnault became an elected member of the Academy of Art in 1782, and later, submitted his Revolution themed compositions to the Salons. Regnault was professor and mentor to a number of great artists of the next generation, including Merry-Joseph Blondel, Pierre-Narcisse Guerin, Robert Lefevre and others.
