Jean-Baptiste Pater was an 18th century French painter. Pater was the son of sculptor Antoine Pater and was born in Valenciennes.

Pater studied under Antoine Watteau and studied at the academy in 1728. Throughout his career, Pater often received commissions from his most famous patron, Frederick the Great, whom he painted two portraits of.
