Isidoro Ocampo was born in Veracruz, Mexico in 1910. Ocampo completed training as a merchant before deciding to pursue formal training as an artist. From 1928 to 1932, Ocampo attended evening classes at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Art in Mexico City.

In 1929, Ocampo became a member of a workshop for book art, creating more than two hundred woodcuts and lithographs. His graphic work illustrated books, newspapers, and magazines, and many of his graphic works were also published by Imprenta y Editorial Cultura.

In 1936, Ocampo became a member of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Recolucionarios (League of the Revolutionary Writers and Artists, LEAR) as well as The Taller de Grafica Popular (Workshop of Popular Graphic Artists), associating with many of Mexico’s leading artists. Ocampo also worked to found the Sociedad para el Impulso de las Artes Plasticas.

Ocampo had his first solo exhibition in 1941 and continued to exhibit in the following years. He was chosen as a representative of Mexico to participate in the 1952 Biennial in Venice. Isidoro Ocampo’s paintings continue to be exhibited internationally.
