Petar Mazev was a Macedonian painter born in the town of Kavadarci. Mazev studied at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade under the painter Zoran Petrovic. After graduating in 1953 he became a professor in Skopje, Macedonia’s capital city.
Mazev was best known for his expressive, non-figurative paintings. Despite his transition to abstraction, his earlier works appeared more figurative and academic. Over time, he became increasingly experimental, using metal, glass and sand in his works. In addition to painting, Mazev created mosaics, sculptures and murals.
Mazev exhibited internationally, showing his works across Europe and the United States. Several of his paintings are in the permanent collection of The Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje.
