Joseph Anton Koch was an 18th century Austrian painter. Koch was active primarily in Rome after he settled there in 1795.
Though he painted a number of scenes from Dante’s Inferno, Koch is now best known for his idyllic landscapes. The landscapes often feature biblical figures and have a distinctive Romantic style, most often featuring mountains.
