Ivana Kobilca was a Slovenian painter born in Ljubljana. Kobilca is known as the most prominent female painter from Slovenia. As a young woman, Koblica travelled to Vienna, where she spent time studying and copying works at the Academy of Arts. Koblica then continued her studies in Munich. After completing her studies, Koblica began exhibiting her work across Europe, receiving praise in Germany and France among other countries.

Koblica produced a large number of portraits and genre scenes. Her early style was marked by realism, while her later work became more Impressionist. Most of her works were made with oils on canvas or pastels on paper.

Koblica is now a national icon of Slovenia. Her face has appeared on the national currency and many of her works are in the National Gallery of Slovenia.
