Anton Hickel was the brother and student of Joseph Hickel. He became an itinerant portrait painter throughout the Hapsburg Empire and the Holy Roman Empire . Forced to leave France with the French Revolution in 1789, he traveled to London . He stayed in England until 1797 when he moved to Hamburg.
