Gavin Hamilton was an 18th century Scottish Neo-Classical painter. Hamilton studied art in Rome under Augustine Mossuchi. He returned to London for a brief period where he painted portraits of nobility, but returned shortly to Italy where he lived for the rest of his life.
Hamilton mainly painted scenes of classical Roman and Greek subjects, and was also an amateur archeologist. Today, many of his paintings are housed in public and private collections in Great Britain and Italy.
