Francois Dumont was an 18th century French painter. He generally painted miniature portraits on ivory. For a time he lived in Rome, and also took up an apartment at the Louvre after being accepted as an Academician.
He married the daughter of miniaturist Antoine Vestier, and thus was married into a family of fellow miniaturist painters. His younger brother, as well as his two sons, were also artists. Today, many of Dumont’s paintings are housed at the Louvre and other prestigious collections throughout the world.
