David Howard Hitchcock was an American painter born in Hilo, Hawaii. Hitchcock is known for his realistic landscape paintings of the Hawaiian Islands. Hitchcock lived in Hilo, Hawaii for most of his childhood, growing up around volcanoes and beaches.
Hitchcock was interested in art from an early age and took drawing courses at the Punahou School in Honolulu. Hitchcock left the islands to attend Oberlin College in Ohio and California School of Design in San Francisco. Hitchcock returned to Hawaii for only a short while before continuing his studies in Paris for three years. Hitchcock received personal training form the talented artist, Jules Tavernier. |
