The Captive Robin 1864
John Anster Fitzgerald was a Victorian era fairy painter and portrait artist. Many of his fairy paintings were dark and contained images of ghouls, demons, and references to drug use. His work was first shown at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1845 and has also been shown at the British Institution, the Society of British Artists, and the Watercolour Society.
The Fairy Funeral
In the late 1850's he created a series of Christmas fairies for The Illustrated London News. He was nicknamed Fairy Fitzgerald by his friends and is also known as J. A.
