Nicolai Abraham
Abildgaard was an 18th century Danish
painter. He first studied at the Copenhagen Academy and
moved to Rome in 1772. He later met and was influenced
by Fuseli and afterwards began to produce works with a
Romantic theme. |

After five years in Rome,
Abildgaard returned to Denmark and began to paint in a
Classical style. He served as the director of the
Copenhagen Academy from 1789-1791 and also worked
occasionally as an architect, designer and sculptor. |
